BIOGRAPHY
Lonnie Root is a versatile musician originally from New York City, NY / Fairfield, CT. He received a full-cello music scholarship from CofC and obtained a bachelors degree in Cello Performance.
He became immediately active within the college as he moved up to co-principal of the orchestra and participated in their chamber groups, concerts, and various master classes under the master tutelage of his teachers Damian Kremer and Natalia Khoma. His work spread to the community as he began playing weddings, church services, and with the Piccolo Spoleto Festival Orchestra under maestro Donald Portnoy. In addition to his classical work, Lonnie began to fuse his traditional training with his love for folk/rock music and became involved with local bands, most notably Milhouse and Entropy Ensemble, who toured and opened for acts such as Zac Brown Band and Duncan Sheik.
Today, Lonnie is an established performer on both traditional and electric cello and remains very active in the music scene playing in various ensembles, festivals, and orchestras. He performs for weddings and private events with the Palmetto Strings, seasonally with the North Charleston POPS! orchestra, and yearly with the south-east region tour of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. In addition, Lonnie teaches private cello and piano lessons to aspiring students of all ages.
Altogether, he has over 25 years of music experience.
